Garage Door Repair Services- Common Garage Door problems

There are many garage door problems that may occur some of which are simple to understand and solve and some that are complex and requiring professional expertise. One common garage door repair problem that most people face is a misaligned photo eye. All garage doors made after 1993 were installed with the photo eyes as a security feature. The photo eyes are located on either side of the door about six inches from the ground.

The photo eyes communicate with each other by sending a beam straight to each other. When there is an item below the door it obstructs the beam from one photo sensor from reaching the receiver photo sensor. When the beam is obstructed the sensor breaks the circuit and therefore the door stops closing. This feature was installed to prevent the door from closing on people or items underneath the door causing injury or damage to property.

When the photo eyes are misaligned, this safety feature will not work and it therefore poses a big risk to your family. If you notice that the door starts closing and then immediately opens, it is most likely due to misalignment of the photo eyes. The door may also open normally but fail to close when the remote is used. Before aligning the photo eyes, ensure that they are clean and there is no debris around them. Wipe them clean with a piece of cloth.

To align the photo eyes, measure the distance from the ground to the center of the photo eye on one side and ensure that it is the same on the other side. After that, confirm that the photo eyes are pointing in the same direction at the same angle. You can achieve this by using a laser level or a normal level to ensure they face each other correctly.

When properly aligned, the photo eyes should communicate to each other properly. This means placing an item under the door should make it stop when closed.
